LADY GAGA Telephone (Niallist 86 Mixx)

As a request from Lady Munter, I have made a very Menergy-friendly Hi-NRG remix of Lady Gaga's Telephone.
Personally, I think this sounds better than the original, but I will let you make your own minds up.

There's a great article on Resident Advisor at the moment about Optimo.
I even get a brief mention, thanks to Andy Brown!
There's also contributions from a host of staff, performers, and regulars.

THE NIALLIST & MAC D I Came (MMX Mixx)

So, I've done a new remix of "I Came". It came about because one of the other remixers has had to drop out, so it came together in the space of about 10 days. Even at that rate, I am very happy with the results. It's heavily influenced by the Optimo Turbo Rave a few weeks back and ticks all my current hot boxes. So you get classic breaks, 808 kick bass, wompy lead synth, ravey synth stabs, and of course on top of all that you get Ms Mac D's awesome vocal. I have good feelings for this mix, I think it could be big...

4th last Optimo - DAM FUNK

Last night was the fourth-to-last ever Optimo, whose live guest was the none-more-G-Funkier DAM FUNK. I really enjoyed his set and will be taking inspiration from his gerenal vibe (a mixture of djing other people's tunes, performing his own songs, rapping and over-the-top soul singing, which works really well in a live setting).

It is also quite possibly my last ever Optimo, as I am decamping to Manchester for a wee bit. So if anyone reading this is in Rainy City and fancies meeting up, drop me a line!

Spatial AKA Orchestra

I'm writing this in Manchester city center - I came down yesterday to catch the show by Jerry Dammers and the Spatial AKA Orchestra, and I'm very glad I made the trek! The Spatial AKA Orchestra is Dammers' tribute to the might Sun Ra, and obviously what he would rather be doing than joining the Specials re-union tours. The show was a full on musical epic that clocked in at over two and a half hours, and counted up to nineteen musicians on the stage (not to mention a dozen mannequins in Egyptian costume holding guitars and synths). The big-band music covered some of the work of Sun Ra (of course) but also a lot of "outsider music" by the likes of Joe Meek, Eric Satie, Martin Denny and a few choice Specials tunes ("Man at C&A" which was blended into Ra's "Nuclear War" and "Ghost Town" which was moulded into the brooding epic "Ghost Planet"). They are playing Edinburgh tonight and I recommend anyone who's about to head along - you will not be disappointed. Here's a clip of the Spatial AKA Orchestra in action:

And big up to Kelvin for putting me up for the night - cheers geezer!
